In 1978, it was the Pastor of St. Anne’s Parish, Father Patrick Costello’s dream to invite celebrities from the world of sport to our community.
Today, the St. Thomas Sports Spectacular carries on this dream and continues to support local Special Olympics and Community Living Elgin as over $500,000 has been raised for a variety of projects.
Over the years, the annual guest lists have reflected an impressive array of professional and amateur athletes, past and present, who have left capacity audiences totally entertained.
The St. Thomas Sports Spectacular is one of the largest events in the City and is organized and run by a dedicated committee of volunteers with a variety of backgrounds and reasons for taking part in this incredible cause. The committee members are Bob Barber, Gary Clarke, Sean Dyke, Bob Heath, Jeff Jenkins, Paul Johnson, Tom Johnston, Dan Kelly, Brent Lale, Tim McFadden, Walt Molinaro, Mike Sunderland and Art Perrier.
